IslandPlas is a multi-year IUCN-led initiative supported by The Coca-Cola Foundation that contributes to the Great Blue Wall vision by advancing circular solutions to plastic pollution across seven African island states. Through strengthened circular economy systems, PlastiNetwork and locally driven partnerships, the initiative reduces plastic leakage while creating sustainable livelihoods and healthier coastal and marine ecosystems
OUR MISSION
We build island-appropriate systems that prevent, separate and recover plastic waste at source, reducing leakage into coastlines and waterways through community collection hubs, PlastiNetwork systems and locally adapted circular solutions.
We empower informal waste workers, women, youth, community-based organizations and entrepreneurs through funding, safer working conditions, skills development, fairer market opportunities and long-term participation in the circular plastics economy.
We work with governments, municipalities, the private sector and communities to strengthen enabling policies, partnerships and governance frameworks that support inclusive, resilient and sustainable circular economy systems.
